What is a Technical Writer?
Often when I tell people I am a Technical Writer, they think of writing copy for advertisements, social media and promotional material. While those are all things I have experience with, they fall into the category of copywriting.
A technical writer specializes in creating clear and concise content that explains complex information. I have experience writing user manuals, guides, documentation, FAQs, and instructional manuals.
My goal is to take your ideas and make the information accessible and understandable to a specific audience. I ask my clients about their ideal client avatar (ICA) for this reason. The more information I have about the audience they are trying to reach the better we can tailor their information to a level that they will understand.
I recently told a client that my job is to act as an advocate for their ICA.
To do this, I ask a lot of questions! I require a strong understanding of the subject matter in order to simplify complex concepts for non-technical readers.
